The McDonalds of Iowa City and its surrounding areas have deep roots. In 1958, Bill and Dorothy O`Brien built their first McDonalds on Riverside Drive in Iowa City just across the street from its current location.  Dorothy was the first woman to own a franchise in a time when women weren`t even allowed to work there.  The O`Brien Organization will celebrate 50 years in 2008.  Dorothy`s son, Kevin O`Brien, currently owns and operates a total of 8 stores.
